Educational Programs
Community education can mirror a vast number of topics, including education about recycling, litter (including cigarette litter), or keeping our community clean. We have customized presentations to assist you with your educational goals. We have helped educate preschool and school-aged children, businesses, clubs, and professional groups.
School and Child Care Facility Education
Keep Grand Island Beautiful (KGIB) can provide classroom education to schools and child care facilities. Lessons can focus on recycling, reducing and reusing, or litter, or from one of the Waste in Place topics listed below. Lessons can be modified based on age, grade level, and time constraints. We include a hands-on activity for student application of the lesson. If you are interested in our KGIB coordinator presenting to your students please contact us.
Teacher Restore
The Teacher ReStore is a place for educators to pick up new-to-them materials and bring us items that are in good, usable condition. Items donated cannot be district-owned items, but items purchased by the educator that are no longer needed. If you’re looking for a specific item, check us out first. There is no cost to shop the Teacher ReStore.
KAB is also accepting used markers and broken crayons. Any brand of markers, dry-erase, and highlighters are also accepted. The crayons and markers will be repurposed by utilizing them within our educational programs. Please notify us if you need a pick-up of your collected items by using our contact form.

Large Scale Recycled Art Projects
During the 2018-2019 school year five area schools (Starr, Shoemaker, Howard, Wood River, and Centura Elementary) participated in our Large Scale Recycled Art projects. The students learned about recycling and collected plastic bottle caps, CD’s and crayons which they used to produce works of art. The projects will be displayed at Conestoga Mall, the Hall County Fair, Art-in-the-Park, and the Nebraska State Fair. Each project will be entered at the Hall County Fair and the Nebraska State Fair potentially earning a special award, ribbons and bragging rights.

Business Education
KGIB can provide education to businesses that are interested in recycling. We can give lunch-and-learn lessons about recycling or litter. We would love to assist your business in implementing a recycling plan or Zero Waste planning for meetings or special events.
In addition to education, KGIB has wireframe recycling bins for aluminum cans or plastic bottles that can be loaned to your business for any amount of time. These bins are lightweight, compact, and easy to use. Our bins are best for indoor use. We ask that your business will track the amount of recyclables each bin captures and provide those numbers to KGIB on a quarterly basis.
If interested in having KGIB provide education or assist with recycling planning, please use our contact form.
Clubs and Professional Groups Education
