2015 was a banner year for Grand Island Area Clean Community System’s Household Hazardous Waste facility. Clean Community System collected 45,898 pounds of household hazardous waste and 16,740 pounds of recyclable electronics in 2015. More than 200 Swap Shop patrons removed 1,700 pounds of products.

On Saturday January 23, 2016 Grand Island Area Clean Community was featured in The Grand Island Independent’s Saturday Salute. Clean Community System was commended for it’s efforts in collecting Household Hazardous Waste from the community, preventing the waste from contaminating the landfill.

Grand Island Area Clean Community System was awarded nearly $70,000 from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality. It received a $41,593 grant for public education and a $27,275 grant for cleanup of roadside miles and 100 acre of public space.

KAB Coordinator, Elise Kostbahn, spoke about Holiday Waste to area kids and teens over winter break at the Grand Island Public Library. The participants and parents learned about the affect the Holidays have on our waste production and were able to make fun crafts with recycled materials.

Clean Community System sponsored an Electronics Recycling Day on Saturday November 14, 2015 at our facility to celebrate America Recycles Day, 16,740 lbs of Electronics were collected to be recycled! We partnered with a local recycling company, E-stroyed, to provide the community a safe way to dispose of and recycle their electronics.
