Adopt-A-Road
The City of Grand Island and Grand Island Area Clean Community System have partnered to create an anti-litter, Adopt-a-Road program intended to build community pride and assist in welcoming visitors to our city. Adopting a road is a partnership between citizens, the City of Grand Island, and Clean Community System by agreeing to keep it clean and free of litter. This program offers individual, businesses, industries, and civic, youth, and non-profit organizations a way to make a very positive impact on the appearance of our community without a large time commitment. Participants are asked for a twice-a-year clean-up of their adopted roadway.
Individuals, businesses, groups, or organizations will be recognized with an official Adopt-A-Road sign with your business or group name at each end of the adopted roadway section. Recognition of this nature will be seen by all motorists/pedestrians that travel the adopted section of roadway.
And let’s not forget about the positive environmental impact adopting a road can have! Most of the roadways with drainage ditches for storm water will carry litter and trash to a local pond or river. Picking up litter keeps our local recreational areas cleaner. It helps our community look green and welcoming and lets people know we care about Grand Island.
If you or your business, group, or organization would like to learn more about adopting a road, please contact Clean Community System at 308-385-5095
